CD Review: Funked Up - The Very Best of Parliament

Yea, yea, yea.
I know what some of yall are out there thinking to yourself.
(None of these songs are new)

And I would say to you..
(So what?)

Yes indeed we have heard all of these songs before, and we have heard them on 45's, LP's, Cassettes, 8-tracks, CD's, MP3's and probably holograms by this point.

(And believe me, I have probably listened to these songs more times than any of yall..lol)

However...

As soon as I slapped this newly re-mastered compilation in my CD player, the fact that I had been listening to these songs for damn near 30 years, mattered little as I danced around the room singing the lyrics, somehow burned into a brain that wasn't always quite ready to fully absorb the lyrics of these songs the very first time I heard them J

"can you dig it CC, to each his reach and if I can't cop it ain't mine to have."
(Was there EVER a better anthem for a generation?)

Are you of that generation?
Or maybe you just wish that you were?

The songs are GREAT

* You can sing to them.
* You can dance to them.
* You can sit still (in case you can't dance) and listen to them.

The musicians are GREAT.

* Eddie Hazel
* Bernie Worrell
* Boogie Mason
* Jerome 'Bigfoot' Brailey
* Bootsy Collins
* Catfish Collins
* Maceo Parker
* Fred Wesley
* Tyrone Lampkin
* Gary Shider
* Brecker Brothers
* Dennis Chambers

The singers are GREAT

* George Clinton
* Calvin Simon
* Ray Davis
* Fuzzy Haskins
* Grady Thomas
* Gary Shider
* Glen Goins
* Dawn Silva
* Malia Franklin
* Jennette Washington
* Sheila Horne
* Phillipe Wynne
* Jesica Cleaves
* Shirley Hayden

This was a GREAT convergence of talented individuals at what was perhaps the ONLY point in time that you could have gotten them all together at the same time.

The fact that this conglomeration of musicians got together at the point in time that they did, was no accident, it was meant to be and it won't ever be captured again.

George Bush wants to go to war?

We need P-Funk
(and we need em quick)

I got something for George Bush's be-hind.

"Unguard, defend yourself.."

I'm about to pull out my BOP GUN :)

"so we can overcome.."

I realize that some of yall don't like compilations.
But for some of us, who can't afford to buy all of the individual albums, a collection like this one is a good bargain.

However, for those of you who simply must have the albums.
A "little birdie" told me that you will soon have the chance to pick them up
(digitally remastered)
