Will Wheaton = "Home Cookin"
A few years ago someone asked me to compare Will Wheaton to Jahiem and here was my reply....
Comparing young Jahiem to Will Wheaton is sooooo unfair! It's kinda like choosing between eating a McDonalds Happy Meal and eating a home cooked meal prepared by Grandma. Yeah, eating the McDonalds Happy Meal might be ok if you are on the run and want a quickie.
But if you want SUBSTANCE and DEPTH, then you would go "home" to Grandma for nourishment.

In addition to being a great artist, Will Wheaton is also one of Soul-Patrol's best friends...
He is a person who truly understands what the purpose of our site is, what it is and what it isn't. Will Wheaton is a person who doesn't just "talk the talk", he also "walks the walk." Will Wheaton puts skin into the game!!!

Album Review: Will Wheaton - "Old School Soul"
(Soul/Funk/Slow Jams)
Here is my Track By Track review of Will Wheaton's Old School Soul, one of the top releases of 2006.
1. Old School Soul - The title cut from this CD might as well be the theme song for the Soul-Patrol website. Even more so it might as well be the theme song for several generations of people who understand what we once had and what we can have again in the future if we have the intestinal fortitude to do so.
2. Never Meant To Hurt You - Here is Will Wheaton at his seductive best. Will goes to "Teddy P/Lufa" territory on this joint. Backed by a solemn piano and a voice that sounds like "bedroom eyes" this is a ballad could become a standard in the future.
3. Heaven Tonight - Midtempo funk/r&b jam that is the type of song that I could imagine Will opening up a concert with...
4. Satisfy - Another seductive song that says "foreplay" and is the beginning of the seduction.
5. Do My Thang - This song has actually been heard on Soul-Patrol in the past. It's Will Wheaton's tribute to the late Barry White. Play it in a disco or use it as a part of the seduction that is sure to follow the "foreplay" of the previous song.
6. When Nobody Gave a Damn - With a sweet mandolin in the background things are now starting to get hot and sweaty up in here!
7. Just Can't Get Enough - Mid tempo song that flows naturally into the mix, it's reminiscent of the songs from Will's CD "Consenting Adultz".
8. Where Are You Now - Now it's after the "act" has occurred and...
9. Any Other Way - The lyrics of this song contain the kind of words that a brotha would hum to himself while skipping down the street to go to the store at the request of his lady after the "pillow talk is over".
10. Come On Everybody - This is a dance record that DJ's will love because it's got an infectious and funky beat that screams out to my feet that it's time for them to move. Remember a brotha named "Col. Abrams"??? (if you do then you have a clue to what this song sounds like). It's a real dance/funk cut (something we aren't used to anymore), complete with strong vocals and horns.
Want more, go on over to brotha Will's site at www.willwheaton.com and take a listen to some of these tracks. Be sure to tell him I sent you

Album Review: Will Wheaton - "Consenting Adultz "
(Soul/Funk/Slow Jams)
Here is my 2001 review of Will Wheaton's SUPER NASTY, EROTIC & HYPNOTIC album called "Consenting Adultz" This is a badd azz album, one of my favorites and to this day is nevr far from the top of my stack when it's time for an "all nighter."
Let's take a look at the "Adult Urban Contemporary" format for a moment. This is the radio format that is out there that is supposed to appeal to a person such as myself.
Let's examine the stats:
* I am 45 years old Black male
* I live in New Jersey, the state with the highest population density (and therefore the most "urban" of the 50 states)
* Till recently, I also worked in NYC (the most "urban" of all cities)
* Although I like pre 1980's music, I am also the type who is willing to "experiment" with newer music
* I have lived thru both the Civil Rights and Hip Hop eras
* I spend quite a bit of my disposable income on "conspicuous consumption" items
In short, I suppose that I fit the profile of what some folks used to call a "buppie" (and i suppose that many other folks here on Soul-Patrol do as well)
Yet (as most of you know), I can't stand listening to more than a few minutes of any "Adult Urban Contemporary" radio station. That's because the music that they play SUCKS and is an insult to my intelligence.
So that means that there is one less "buppie" available to these kind of stations in the radio markets that I live in.
- Obviously the management of those stations isn't too concerned about the fact that I am not listening.
- They don't change their playlists
- They don't strive to become the kind of radio station that I might develop some loyalty for
- In short they don't care if I put a tape in and listen to it instead of the radio.
They are just fine with that because they realize that most of their target demographic is simply UNWILLING to ever change the dial on the radio or to put in a tape instead. And that is really a shame. Because the only real difference between me and most of the other "buppies" across the United States is that I am exposed to and listen to a great deal
more "Urban Contemporary Music" then most of them do.
And I'm here to tell you all, that Mr. Will Wheaton CD, CONSENTING ADULTZ is one of the best of the current lot. His music is one of the tapes that I consistently find myself reaching for during my daily commute. His style is something of a "throwback" to someone like Teddy Pendergrass. However it isn't "retro" in the least.
His music is all about RAW SEX APPEAL.
He is direct
He is straight to the point
He is in command
Somehow he manages to do all of this without being vulgar or profane.
It has just a hint of jazz
It has just a hint of funk
It has a singer with a voice that is certain to lead to "spontaneous combustion" in the bedroom
In short, it would be perfect modern day "Quiet Storm" material, if a radio programmer were to be bold enough to put Will Wheaton into the rotation. Unfortunately, Will Wheaton can't afford to pay the going rates for payola that these stations want to charge him so that you can become exposed to his music.
That's the bad news...
The good news is that you can actually listen to the music of Will Wheaton, right here on Soul-Patrol at the following link...
